For Chipsters first review, we intended to go to the
Railway Tavern in Crouch End as we have heard good things, however, they only had one chef working and they couldn't handle any more orders! Say what? The place
was full of hipsters drinking
Red Stripe and eating f*$&@ng great smelling burgers and chips, which incidentally,
did look good, but we did not taste them so...we reviewed someplace else instead.
Take 2!
We made the decision to make a random impromptu restaurant review. It was cold so we didn't want to walk that far. We saw a place in the distance, one cigarette's journey away, and decided to go in and warm our selves with alcohol and chips, but of course! We settled on
Monkeynuts in Crouch End. The chips arrived hot, which is a plus, and were shoestring style(
as pictured), which usually is not.
The chips were crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside,
good thing, though, to be honest, there was not much potato in there, as is the problem with said shoestring style fries/chips. We debated whether they tasted frozen or not,and it was difficult to tell at first, but after they cooled a bit, we decided they were almost certainly frozen chips. All in all, they okay, but they weren't rubbish. On a scale of 5(the Chipsters scale), I would give them a rating of 3. They were not cheap and not great, but they are certainly edible and filled our craving for fried goodness.
The Chipster Beer Recommendation:
Brooklyn Lager or Moosehead.
