Where am I? Who am I? Get me some chips!

So, does this thing have any beer in it?

 Greetings,

So, I've been hiding in an underground bunker for the last year a la Brendan Fraser and to a much lesser extent, Hitler. Apparently I took the this whole "end of the world Mayan prophecy in 2012" thing a bit too seriously. Also, to be fair, I was hoping to give the whole London Olympics a miss as well as I'm sure it's going to be a f@£$ing nightmare! Unfortunately, I ran out of fags and beer and had to resurface to scavenge for supplies but it turns out everything is fine...well relatively I suppose. I don't think Greece and Spain would agree...

Anyway, back to the chips! Review coming soon! South London!

Chipsters Review #2: The White Hart, Crystal Palace SE19

www.thewhitehartse19.co.uk

1/2 out of

I don't know if you've ever been to Crystal Palace, and how would I, I don't know who's reading this! But if you haven't been there, you must go! It's a beautiful, quite hilly, quaint, and happening little community in Southeast London that a lot of central Londoners never venture out to. Though we are mega awesome chip snobs, we are not snob snobs. We felt miles from hectic and electric London and felt more like we were...well, home.

(Note: We at Chipsters are now seriously considering moving our operations to this area.)

We wandered round the high street area looking for something interesting to beckon us with it's gravitational pull, an establishment to send out it's chippy vibe. Long story short...one did. It was the White Hart. The White Hart is a trendy looking, shabby sheik place with hip looking hipsters behind the bar. We asked the lads to recommend something and we had a sharing platter avec chips, of course!

The chips were big and crunchy on the outside, really flaky and soft on the inside and nicely seasoned. Some of the chips had the skins still on, which is a big plus here at chipsters, but most did not for some reason. It was as if they peeled most of the potatoes and just left skin on the smaller ones because they were too hard to peel. I would have left the skin on everything! But that's me! I'm only a bloody chips expert for Xenu's sake! Anyhoo...

All in all, the experience was great. The other food we had was really great, I would go as far to say much better than the chips. The chips were almost an afterthought here, though good, they were not as good as they could have been.

I would recommended the place as a fun place to hang out with hip people, good music, good food and good drinks. Just leave more skin on next time lads! Oh, and the graffiti on the back patio...that's not for me to say...

The Chipster Beer Recommendation: Budweiser(The Czech one) and Hogan's Cider.

Chipsters Review #1: Monkeynuts, Crouch End N8

out of
For Chipsters first review, we intended to go to the Railway Tavern in Crouch End as we have heard good things, however, they only had one chef working and they couldn't handle any more orders! Say what? The place was full of hipsters drinking Red Stripe and eating f*$&@ng great smelling burgers and chips, which incidentally,
did look good, but we did not taste them so...we reviewed someplace else instead.

Take 2!

We made the decision to make a random impromptu restaurant review. It was cold so we didn't want to walk that far. We saw a place in the distance, one cigarette's journey away, and decided to go in and warm our selves with alcohol and chips, but of course! We settled on Monkeynuts in Crouch End. The chips arrived hot, which is a plus, and were shoestring style(as pictured), which usually is not.

The chips were crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside, good thing, though, to be honest, there was not much potato in there, as is the problem with said shoestring style fries/chips. We debated whether they tasted frozen or not,and it was difficult to tell at first, but after they cooled a bit, we decided they were almost certainly  frozen chips. All in all, they okay, but they weren't rubbish. On a scale of 5(the Chipsters scale), I would give them a rating of 3. They were not cheap and not great, but they are certainly edible and filled our craving for fried goodness.

The Chipster Beer Recommendation: Brooklyn Lager or Moosehead.

Next review coming real soon!

Chipsters Launches! History in the Making!

An ad from the olden days. Yikes!

Hi Inter-weeb and fellow foodie geeks!

The world loves it's chips, or french fries, or even freedom fries if you're a right wing nut-case...but I digress! We at Chipsters have decided to do the world a favour, you're welcome world, and by world, I mostly mean London. We are going to sample chips, good and bad, fresh and frozen, thick and thin, naughty and nice. We will then review said chips and post our results on this blog you are now reading, avec pictures and so on.

You may be asking yourselves, "Who are these people?" and,
"What makes them such experts on chips?"
Both are good questions and the answers are thus, shut up and mind your own business and we are bloody chip connoisseurs, that's all!

So strap in, take your ALLI or LIPITOR medication if necessary and great ready for the Magical "Chips"troy Tour! See what I did there? No good? Shut the F@*k up!

Seriously though, we love chips, and if you love chips, stay tuned as we'll  be posting our first review in the next 24 hours.
